All of the outreach events, discipleship meetings, coffee dates, games...all of it is for the purpose of helping students find their way back to God and become disciples. Baptism is the first step on that journey. Anthony had a background in the church, and when he started getting involved in CSF this year, knew it was time to take the next step in his faith.
This Sunday, Anthony was baptized, surrounded by family, friends, and members of his small group. These are the moments that matter! We've met SO many new students over the past couple of weeks and can't wait to see what God has in store for us this semester!
Find your people. Build Community. Read God's Word. We know these are some of the things college students need MOST as the new semester begins. Below are the groups starting up this week, and we have several others popping up on and off-campus in the next few weeks! Get connected with a small group here! 9 students finished their final exams and packed up in a van to spend a few days serving at FAME Medical Evangelism Partners. Our team helped pack and organize a warehouse filled with medical supplies, preparing them to be shipped all over the world to the places needed most.
It doesn't matter if your gift is big or small. YOUR gift at year-end can make a difference in positioning CSF for ministry next semester! Use the DONATE button on the right side of the page to partner with CSF today!
For the month of November, our Monday Night Worship series is called If/When/How?: Exploring God's heart for Justice. David layed a groundwork with this definition: to do justice is to reflect God’s heart by ensuring all people in His creation receive the full benefits of life with Him.
One of the way students determined they could address this in a practical way was in the area of food insecurity. They participated in the UIS Trick or Treat for Canned Goods and collected almost 1500 lbs of food, taking 1st place out of 12 student teams. We're looking forward to several more weeks challenging students to consider how our day-to-day practices can reflect God's heart. UIS attracts students from all of the world, and for the last few years, we've had a larger-than-normal number of students coming from Nigeria to student at UIS. These students have been teaching us lots about not only life in their home country, but new perpspectives on faith, discipleship, and evangelism.
For the 2nd year in a row, our Nigerian students hosted a Culture Night to share about their foods, customs, and languages with American students and other international students. They cooked amazing traditional foods and came dressed in some of the most beautiful garments. As our community works to do life together on campus, events like these help us to know one another more deeply and even to rejoice in our differences! After 2 years of non-traditional school years, it was so exciting to bring back our Fall Retreat!! Only 2 of our students had ever participated in a normal retreat with us, so it was a special weekend. We saw God at work as students who were still finding their place in CSF left the retreat with some deeper friendships and spiritual excitement. Included in those students were several Hindu and Muslim students who attended and are continuing to express some spiritual curiosity about Jesus!
